The infamous New Year's resolutions...

So, here it is, New Year's Eve, and I know the dreaded question I'll be asked by friends tonight will be, "What's your New Year's resolution?" I could say the same things that I always say every year: lose weight, make all As, and save money. But really? I've been having those resolutions for as long as I can remember, and are they really making any impact in my life? I mean am I really doing everything I can in order to do those things? NO. I'm not. (From here on out, New Year's resolution will be NYR).

Dictionary.com defines a resolution as ' a formal expression of opinion or intention made.' So, it's what you really intend to do. It doesn't mean you have to actually do it, just make a conscious effort at doing so?

So I guess my previous NYRs have been correct...I have intended to lose weight. I have intended to make all As. I have intended to save money. It just gets to me. Why can't I get over it? I feel like if I set a NYR, that I'm just going to fail at it, and why would I want to set a NYR and then feel like a failure in mid-January when I quit?

So, here is a list of things that I would like to accomplish in 2009, but I'm not going to worry and stress over them.
1. Shape Up- I'm kinda at a point where I just want to be at a healthy BMI and not care about having that 'perfect' body that I had previously dreamt of having.
2. Make grades that reflect the work I put into the classes. If I put in 100% effort, I know that I'll make As. So I am really going to work at studying.
3. Budget. Budget. Budget. Kendi and Don sat down with me and helped me come up with a reasonable budget. I pray that I can stick to it.
4. Running. I absolutely LOVE to run. I just don't make time for it and my knees hurt when I run too much. So, I'm going to slowly work my way into running again. I want to have my time be less than an hour when I run Beach to Bay in May. (Last year, my time was like 1:08). I also want to be able to run a half marathon by this time next year. That's 13.1 miles. and I know, that is a lot. But, I do have 12 months.
5. Have time to do nothing. I would like to set aside one day a month for me to do absolutely nothing. (I'll wait until I have all my syllabi to make sure I don't schedule those days the day before a paper or exam.haha).

But, my NYR that I'll tell everyone. The one that I really want to do. The BIG one.

I am going to wake up each morning and thank God for all that He has done for me.

So often, I take for granted all the things that I have and I forget to thank Him. What if I start my each day thanking Him? Not asking for things, but just saying, 'Thank You, God. You are AMAZING!!!'

Audie

From PJohn's Blog:

"Our Children's Pastor - Audie Lawley - has been in the hospital a couple of days now fighting an infection and dealing with issues that are preventing her from producing blood to fight the infection.

The Dr.'s still aren't sure of the cause of the infection and are running many tests . . . Please pray for healing and peace . . . and pray for her husband Tim to be encouraged and blessed.

"I will extol the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips. My soul will boast in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt His name together.
I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him.
Fear the Lord, you His saints, for those who fear Him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing." (Psalm 34:1-4, 8-9)"

Please pray that the docs can figure out where this infection is coming from and how to get rid of it!

Something always happens to me on January 11th & I'm excited to see what it's going to be...I'm considering going and getting a second hole in each ear (I've really wanted to, but I'm kinda a chicken) because on January 11th when I was 11, I got my ears pierced. So, January 11 when I'm 22, get a 2nd hole? Idk...
January: starting a new budget
February: MDA Stride and Ride
March: MDA Gala
March: Third Day Concert (bought mom tickets for her bday, which is today)

July:?
August: Beginning my first semester as full time SCS student.

I look forward to seeing me this time next year & seeing how God has grown me.

I'll post some "goals," "resolutions," whatever in the next day or so that I want to accomplish next year.

8-25-08 to 12-8-08

I have always been self conscious about my weight. This semester, I took both water aerobics and swimming. I decided at the beginning of the semester I would write down my weight and do my best to get some of it off by now (the end of the semester). My (realistic) goal was to lose 10 pounds this semester.

So, like I said I was in Swimming and Water Aerobics all semester. In Water Aerobics, we were challenged to do the 100 mile challenge. Basically, walk, run, or swim 100 miles in the semester. I had about 3 weeks where I forgot to turn in my paper saying my mileage for the week, but I'm proud to say that I walked/ran/swam 168.5 miles this semester!

And...drumroll please...

I have lost 21.2 pounds!!!

I am super excited & am trying to continue to work and get some more weight off & shape up. :-)

Prayer Requests

As this semester is ending, I'm asking everyone to please please please pray for me...

My Astronomy Final can either break me or save me...like it's either gonna be a C or like a 30. So please PLEASE pray that all goes well tomorrow (1045am-115pm).

Then on Tuesday, please pray for my Biblical interpretation and my Christian Worship classes...I'm doing much better in both of those classes than in Astronomy, but pray that I still do well. RIght now, I think that I have high Bs in both classes...so if I do well, I could get As...which would be AWESOME!

Please pray for Kaylee Lierman...she's having tubes put in and her adenoids taken out on Tuesday (she's 13 months old) and the surgery isn't until 3 in the afternoon & she can't eat anything after midnight the night before...So pray that it all goes well. (also, pray for her daddy, Daryl who will be having surgery on january 19th).

Hmm...what else?

Please pray for my professors Nathan and Kathy Maxwell---they're going to be relocating to Florida in about a week & just pray that all goes well with the move and the readjustments and that they find a church. All of us at SCS are really going to miss them. They are awesome...I've had so much fun in her class.

okay, it's time for me to get back to studying. :-/

Been awhile

Guess I should update this.

I have been super busy with school. Papers, tests, projects, more papers...AAAHHH!! Only 4 more class days at DMC and 2 more at SCS and FINALS time. Not looking forward to Finals. They stress me out so so so so much. But, after December 10th, I will be a much happier camper (and just in time for Amanda's birthday dinner that night, yays!).

I signed up for classes next semester. 15 hours (yikes--I've only taken 12 so far & it's killing me...but I want to graduate). I'll be taking Physics, World Literature, Foundations for Cross Cultural Ministry, Introduction to Philosophy, and Supervised Ministry. Wowzas. Please start praying now for me for next semester. I was however, able to get all of my classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays (Tuesday 8-920 & 1-8, and Thursday 8-1220) and one online class (world lit). I'm very excited about that. But, I hope that on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I can stay responsible enough to actually study and do my work (I'll pretty much have to in order to pass all my classes).

I started occasionally working at a Valet Company with one of my friends, and I really enjoy it. It's fun, easy, and has the possibility of making good tips.

Church is going fantastic. I absolutely love everything about it. I really and truely feel that God has called me to be in the ministry. I don't even know what else to say about it...I am so happy and so blessed to be working side by side with such awesome people, helping to further the Kingdom of God. I can't wait until it can be my main everyday focus (instead of school).

I'm house sitting for like a week and a half or so...the person I'm currently housesitting for will be back on Monday and the next person leaves on Monday...So, until next Sunday, I have my own "place." haha.

Well, I've got to be up & ready to go in about 8 1/2 hours, so I'm going to go to bed.
Blessings!

Next Semester

Please pray for me as I am considering which classes to take for school next semester. Pray that God will show me exactly which ones to take and how many total hours to take (In order for me to graduate in May '10, I have to take 3 semesters of 18 hours...not sure if I can handle that).
thanks!

My weekend

This weekend has been SO much fun. I picked up Jacob from school on Friday at 145 and we went to Sonic and played on the playground. We had so much fun chasing eachother around and drinking our "rainbow swushes." As I was chasing him (or was I running from him), I looked away from the direction I was going, and, just like in the movies, as I turned and looked back the way I was supposed to be looking, I smacked right into the top of the slide with my head. Front and Center of the top of my head hurts so bad. Still.

After sonic, we went home then picked up Colby. We had decided to walk, since the weather was nice, so, of course, it was the day Colby had to bring home this giant pumpkin that he had decorated (and covered with the fake snow some people spray on their Christmas Trees). So there we were...walking home with me carrying that big ole pumpkin. We went home and watched a little tv and played the wii.

Then Matt got home, and I went to the Johnson's to sit.

We played outside for a bit and then Audie met us at 7:00 and we went back down the street and got Colby and went to a Football Game! The kids had such a blast as we watched Mr. Shawn kick some booty! (It was the Carroll game, and when we left at the middle of the fourth, they were ahead 38-0). Megan was a little nervous at first because of the loud band, but after a bit, she was dancing and clapping. Colby and Alex were screaming "Go Shawn Go" as loud as their little voices could yell. it was A-dorable!

We also saw Mrs. Pam there...funny story. Mrs. Pam was my teacher when I was in Pre-K. She's known my mom since before then. Last year, she was Alex's teacher. Crazy!

After the game, we of course went home and crashed.

This morning, I made eggs and cereal for the kids and we watched a little bit of Sesame Street and Bob the Builder. Then, around 9, I asked the kids if they wanted to go to a park. Of course they said yes, so we got in the car & I started trying to think of a park to go to. I remembered the Duck Park! So, we ran to HEB and bought a loaf of bread. We got to the park and Alex and Megan were AMAZED at how many ducks and geese and seagulls and pidgeons were there. Their little squeals of delight and laughter are still in my mind... They thought it was funny, when they were throwing the bread in the water at the dicks that they would fight over it. So about 15 minutes and a loaf of bread later, we played on the playground for a bit, but it was honestly pretty boring. Just a tall slide and some swings. And a merry-go-round type thing.

So, I asked if they wanted to go play at a different park. They did, so we stopped and got Apple Juice slushes from sonic and went to the park by my house. we played for about an hour or so, then went to my house and i brought little girl cat and dax out for them to meet.

We went home, had lunch, and then had a "rest time." We watched the Curious George movie.
After that was Alex's t-ball game. He did fabulous (as always) and hit well and ran the bases well. They played the Pink Flamingos, which is a team of all girls, and Megan is infatuated with them. After t-ball, we went to get suh-moovies (smoothies) and then went home and played and relaxed until Erin got home. Oh, and at one point, I was getting a game outta the game closet, and a huge metal tin of dominos fell out and bonked me...on the head. (So I have two huge goose eggs on my head right now).

And now, I'm supposed to be writing my paper for my Christian Worship class...but I can't concentrate. My head hurts too badly.

Colby

Wow, what a day yesterday! First of all, I felt extremely crummy (see the previous post). I started feeling a little better around 415 or so...medication finally kicked in.

So about 430, i get a call from jenny, and a few minutes later, a call from Audie. I just had this gut feeling that something was wrong. It was.

Colby and Jenny were on their way home from school (jacob was @ home with taylor), and Colby fell off the back of his bike and hit his head on the sidewalk. They ended up going to the minor emergency place and the people there called an ambulance and they transported Colby to the Driscoll Children's Hospital emergency room (colby thought it was pretty cool that he got to ride in an ambulance and they had a tv so he got to watch sponge bob). He had to get blood work and a CT, but they all turned out normal, thank God.

He ended up having a concussion, but other than that, he was okay. He and Jenny got home at about 11 (I was there with the other boys, i picked them up from Jess at like 8) and he was asleep.

This morning he woke up and was great.

Well, class is starting so I better get going.

Stuff...

First off, the thing that I am SO SO excited about...I'm going to get to see my "real" dad! Yes, you read right. My real dad. As in the one in Ohio that I haven't seen in like 10 years...maybe more. Actually, now that I think about it, I was 11 (or almost 11) when he left and I'm 22 now, so like 11 years. Wow.

Anyway, the way its happening is I have a friend from high school, Marilyn who is going to be getting married on June 20th and she lives in Ohio. SO, she asked me to be a bridesmaid. So, I'll be in Ohio for the wedding that weekend, so of course I'm going to spend time with him too...I am so excited.

Some people are kinda shocked that I would want to see him after all this time, but you know what? He's my dad and I love him. Even though he's made mistakes, and isn't perfect, neither am I and neither are you. But I know someone who is...and He died for our mistakes and our stupidity. He forgives us for all the horrible stuff that we do, so why wouldn't I forgive my dad for hurting me? Of course I would.

On another subject, my cousin's step-mom owns a candle company business and I would really like to have a candle party sometime...would anybody be interested in opening their home for me to host it? I would be willing to share my earnings (I get 35% of what is made). She sells many things-candles (in all sizes and scents, and if she doesn't have a scent that you want, she can make it), smelly jellies (which are kinda like candles but you don't light them, so they're good places where candles aren't allowed...schools, offices, etc), she also makes reed diffusers, and bath products too! Her website is http://southernparadisecandles.com/ I was kinda hoping for either the first or second weekend of November. (They would make great Christmas gifts...hint hint).

It seems to me there was something else I wanted to add to this...but I can't remember.
Oh well.

Gas is 2.79 around my neck of the woods. But I went to Portland on Saturday, and saw it as low as 2.44...but I had filled up on Thursday....oh well.

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

I was right...

gas was 2.99 by Del Mar...and everywhere else...

Tuesday, October 7, 2008

So sad.

It is so sad that I am so stinkin' excited about gas prices going down that not only am I excited about it and blogging about it...but that's what I'm looking forward to tomorrow. Because it's 3.09 on this side of town & tomorrow I go to Del Mar, where it's usually between 5 and 10 cents cheaper...if it's 10 cents cheaper, that'll mean 2.99. Woohoo!

I'll let you know on the outcome of tomorrow's gas...if I remember.

Living the Life Women's Conference

Tonight was the first night of the Living the Life Women's Conference. It has been AWESOME! The James Roots Band is playing and there are quite a few people there. I'm volunteering, selling merchandise. I'm selling merchandise for a very sweet lady named Becky Tirabassi. I had heard of her before this evening, but I'm not sure where.... and I think I heard someone say her husband is a professional golfer? Who knows. Well, I'm going to play some more with my laptop!!! :)

(By the way, it's a Toshiba Satellite).

today

I got a brand spankin' new laptop. It is wonderful & now I may be able to get schoolwork done... :-)

I am way extremely excited.

Missing

Something's missing in my life.
I know what it is, but I'm not sure how to tell others.
I'm afraid of what will be said.
I'm afraid of what people will think.
I'm afraid of hurting feelings.
I love what's missing.
I miss what's missing.
God, please help me.
Tell me what to do.
Tell me what to say.
Tell me when the right time is.
Help me to understand others' feelings when/if this happens.
Please help me, God.
I beg of you.
I'm feeling lost and alone.
I'm feeling just this emptiness.
I know what will fill it...
I long to hear You, Lord.
To hear Your voice, telling me what to do about it.
God, just please please help me make the right decision.
Amen

Whirlwind Life

These past few weeks have been insanely hectic to me.

I wrote a paper on Ephesus that was pretty good, or so I thought. I was told I only had five typos in the paper and I needed to work on the bibliography. So I spotted the six errors that I really had & fixed the bib. Then I was handed back the paper and it said to re-write it with more citations. Then, my professor says not to use wikipedia, that it's very unreliable. I had no idea...boo.

Hurricane Ike was headed right for us so we were going to evacuate. Then it wasn't so we weren't. Then they weren't sure so we might. I like knowing a schedule and keeping it.

I've been trying to go to the gym as often as possible. I went Thursday, Friday, Saturday, rested on Sunday, Mondays and Wednesdays I have Water Aerobics followed by swimming, and yesterday, since it was so nice and cool out, I went for a run. It was SO nice out...I started running with the intention of running two miles (I had a pedometer on), and when i got back to my car and looked...3 miles! YAY! It was about a 45 minute run...no iPods, cell phones, just me and the open sidewalk (lol).

I've been feeling very stressed with school and getting things read and getting stuff done at church...I'm not sure why. I've been very last minute lately, and even though I do procrastinate, I do NOT like this.

I had my first caffeinated soda in over a year this weekend. I was craving a rootbeer float, but we didn't have any rootbeer, so I had a Diet Pepsi float. One on Saturday and another on Sunday. I've hardly slept since then...although, last night, I was in bed by 945, and asleep almost immediately.

Well, I've got to run, I've got Astronomy in about 15 minutetts (which is a super fun class, by the way).

My 2nd Birthday

So, since everything (except dinner) was a major bummer on my actual birthday, I pretended Thursday was my birthday.

I woke up with plenty of time to get up & ready (so that started my day out well).

I had gotten a call from FinAid on Wed afternoon that I missed, so I went to the FinAid office to sign the back of some form. Then this AWESOME lady said that I would be able to go online in one week and accept my award. Then a week or so later, Ill get a light blue letter in the mail and I'll get my money October 3rd. I was like, "excuse me?' And she said, "huh?" I explained all the stuff I'd gone through the day before, and she said no that everything had been straightened out and my paperwork was being processed as we spoke (she had handed my file over to someone before she explained the going online stuff).

Then I ran into Morgan (who, in high school was like a brother to me). We talked for a good 30 minutes until he was late leaving for work and I was almost late for my PIANO lesson.

My PIANO lesson was AWESOME!!! I had so much fun & the prof kept saying how impressed she was (basically that I've taught myself just about everything I know about piano). It was so fun.

Then, I went to the mall and walked around for a bit. Didn't find anything I really wanted.

I went to Audie's and we picked up Megan J from school and took her to her first Dance class. They didn't let us stay inside and watch, but we did sit in the car and watch through the window. Erin came and watched us too. It was adorable & she LOVED it.

Then we picked up Alex & went back to Audie's. Alex & I swam for a bit while Audie and Megan made chicken nuggets and mac and cheese.

I babysat at 630 & was home by a few minutes after 9. I just kinda relaxed and played online.
I think I was in bed by 10. :-)

It was a great 2nd birthday.

My Birthday

I actually had a pretty crummy 22nd birthday.

I started out the day waking up late & being really rushed getting to school. I went to drop papers off at FinAid, and the lady told me that I have too many hours to get a loan and that I would have to go change my major because I should've already completed the major I have down right now (Early Childhood K-4th grade---since they don't have Religious Education at DMC). So, she sent me to an advisors office.

So, I sat down with Dr. M something or other & she basically told me that since we're dealing with the Federal Government/Loans that I'm lucky they caught me being dually enrolled in the colleges because if the Gov't had, I could be in trouble (I guess they thought I was applying for FinAid at both colleges, which I'm not.). The advisor told me that they needed a transcript from HPU to update my records. So after a half hour at Fin Aid and an hour at the advisors, I had to go to class.

On my way to class, I contacted Dr. Maxwell & asked about getting HPU transcripts. She said I'd have to fill out stuff and send it to HPU then they could either fax or send my transcripts to DMC.

So, after class, I went back to the registrar's office & asked if a faxed transcript would be considered official. The lady said no, and I asked if there was any electronic way that they would accept it. She said she would go ask her supervisor.

So, this lady, Priscilla, comes up to the window, and very rudely asks, "Are you the girl that was in Dr. M somethings office earlier?" I said "yes ma'am, I was" and she totally flipped out on me. She started with, "I don't know what it is you don't understand, I thought I explained it simple enough for you, but I guess not..." and she went on for like 5 minutes, not letting me stop and explain that I understood they needed an official transcript, but was wondering if I could get it emailed or faxed because HPU will take awhile to get it in and I need my loan asap.

So, as I left the office, feeling like a complete idiot, I called my mom, bawling like a baby. She was so rude to me (the lady at the registrar's, not mom).

I went to Water Aerobics & Swimming. They were okay, but not the greatest.

Then, I went to SCS to sign the stuff for my transcripts from HPU and got stuck in the base's 230/3 o'clock going home from work traffic. It took me till 330 to make it to church to pick up my paycheck. I went & deposited it, then went home for a nap.

I couldn't sleep. Boo.
But, I did get some cuddling time in with my cat. :-)

After all that, I had dinner at Olive Garden. It was great. Aunt Maggie, Megan, Tori, Amanda, Mom, Bill, Shawna, Audie, Juillet, and her friend came. So we had a nice little party. I got gift cards to the mall, Macy's, and target (I've already spent the mall & macy's cards--got 2 new pairs of jeans and some stuff from bath & body...I also bought 2 pairs of shoes...but I spent my own money on thoes...shh.). Then Audie and I went to pick up carseats at Erin's, and she gave me a gift card to Chili's/On the Border/Macaroni Grill/Maggianos (it's one that can be used at any of those places). Mom gave me a Bible Application book too.

I went home & was in bed, and asleep before my "actual" birth time (10:39 pm).

Irritated...

Many things have irritated me today, but one thing has irritated me most.

The post that I wrote last night, I used the wrong "there" instead of "their"...and that really irks me.

update on the walmart

just saw the news...(guess I should've waited 2 minutes to hear the news before I posted).

It was a bomb scare.

Thank God I decided to throw some laundry in before I left...otherwise I would've been in there.

water shoes???

So I needed to go to Wal-mart this evening to get water shoes for my Water Aerobics class. When I was getting ready to turn into the entrance, I noticed a Wal-mart Employee waving me away from there. I was a little annoyed, and just went into the next entrance. I looked towards the front, and saw at least 10 police cars and people were going to there cars, and a steady stream of Wal-mart Employees were exiting the building. I'm not sure what was happening.

So I went to Academy to see if they had any. They didn't, but they did have bathing suits for $2.88 a piece. So I tried on a bunch. As I was leaving about 30 or 45 minutes later, I drove back towards Wal-mart. All the entrances were barracaded and the employees were sitting in the grassy area next to the store.

So, I headed (through the Academy and Home Depot parking lots) to Target. When I got next to Barnes and Nobles, I noticed a white van and a guy standing next to it holding a medium sized box. A police car was parked behind his truck and an officer was coming around from the other side. The guy dropped his box. The officer said something to him, and the guy pushed the box towards the officer with his foot then went and put his hands on the hood of the police car. In my review mirror, I could see handcuffs being put around his wrists.

So then I went to Payless and Target.

FYI, Academy is completely out of watershoes. Payless has a size 3 (that's really pretty and glittery) and Target has size 4 and smaller. Thank goodness I'm a size four...in shoes.

got it fixed

my classes were fixed.

the cashier's office had dropped me because I hadn't done what they hadn't told me to do (does that make sense?) about installment plans.

So, after waiting in line at the registrar, then cashiers, then registrar, then going to 3 department heads and practically begging to be let into full classes, then back to registrar and back to the cashiers, I was able to get all the classes back that I had been dropped from.

Astronomy seems like it'll be a cool class. The prof seems like he's one of those teachers who really has a passion about what he teaches and that he cares about his students. Although he wasn't to happy that nobody in class had bought the book yet. So, we're having a quiz over the first chapter tomorrow.

Water Aerobics seems like it'll be lots of fun. There's a girl I went to high school with in the class, so I'll have someone to hang out with.

Swimming is going to be a great workout, I'm sure. The prof also seems to love swimming and everything about water.

I haven't met my Piano prof yet. She's supposed to call or email me to let me know when my lesson will be.

Biblical Interpretation is going to be HARD! I can't even begin to describe it yet...I'm still kinda in shock. :)

Christian Worship is going to be a fun class...Lots of discussion went on today, and I really liked the way our Prof let everyone have their turn at speaking and he really valued everyone's opinion. I was to chicken to say anything, so hopefully, I'll be able to talk before I totally screw up my participation grade.

Oh, and a guy who was my youth group leader when I was 12 - 14 years old is in both my Biblical Interp and Christian Worship classes.

Well, I'm going to go read for that Astronomy quiz now...

confused...

i just went online to Del Mar's website to check my class schedule and room numbers and teachers and all... ALL of my classes have been dropped. All of them.

And it says I owe $0.00 and have a $275.00 credit.

Then I checked the classes I was supposed to take, and all of them say CLOSED which means they're to the max on the number of students.

I'm kinda freaking out.

lots of work ahead...

I just got my syllabi from the two classes I missed Tuesday...let me tell you. I've got a LOT of work ahead of me. In one class, I've got 7 chapters to read (out of two textbooks) and in the other 3 chapters and 3 assignments...and this isn't easy reading... wow.

God, I pray that You show me what I need to do in order to stay focused and on top of this work. I pray that You open my eyes to what You want to show me, my ears to what You want me to hear, and my heart to what You want me to feel and grow in. Amen.

sick--round 2.

So after I had Strep, I felt a ton better on Saturday & Sunday, so I went ahead and went to church on Sunday. I was extremely worn out by the time I left, so I went home and slept until dinner (at like 7). I ate Jaliscos and felt great.

I had postponed my Monday morning job until Wednesday to give myself one more day to sleep and relax. So I spent most of the morning around the house, went to lunch with Jenny and Colby at Olive Garden (yum). Then I napped most of the afternoon. I watched the Klaus boys for about 2 hours while they were doing stuff, and by the time I got home, I had a 101 fever again.

I hardly slept Monday night. My fever went up to like 103 and I couldn't get it to go down. My head felt like my brain was about to burst out of my skull. Tuesday morning was no better. Couldn't get my fever down, couldn't keep any food down. So, when my mom had her lunch break at 11, she took me to see Doctor Petty again. I don't remember much about the appt. other than she took my blood and stuck a metal wire up my nose. Then she gave me a prescription, and I've basically been sleeping since.

I figured out in a 36 hour time period that I had slept 28 hours. So, needless to say, I'm getting my rest.

Bummer though, because I missed the first day of class at SCS on Tuesday. Which is really like I missed the first week of class because it's only a one day a week class. I'm going to try to go up there tomorrow morning and get my syllabi and my books. Who knows if I'll wake up early enough though.

Strep Throat.

So, I have Strep Throat. But, I caught it quick enough that it's just the start of it. If I would've waited another 24 hours or so before going to the doctor, it would've been full blown. But, I didn't. yay.

So, I'm now on antibiotics (amoxicillin...and it's not pink anymore. It's orange now. but it still has the yummy bubblegum taste!) and I had to get a HUGE shot in my hip (oww). And, I am not a good shot taker. But, I spent the about 5 minutes it took for her to get the shot praying and breathing and begging my mom not to make me take it, and I really didn't pass out. I just kinda laid back on the table for about 15(?) minutes while my mom was talking to the dr and I was fine. I even walked around walmart for 30 minutes or so while we waited on our prescriptions.

Being sick stinks..

So i've been sick for a little over 24 hours now. And it really stinks.

I spent all day yesterday throwing up and running a fever. Today I'm running a fever again, and I think it's beginning to break. But, now my throat is starting to hurt. So, if I have to bet, I would bet I'm getting Strep Throat. For me it always starts with throwing up then a fever, then once it breaks, sore throat. Boo.

My mom's gotta doctor's appointment at 530 this evening, so I'm going to go with her and see if Dr. Petty will squeeze me in.

On a positive note, I have been catching up with the Olympics. And spending quality time with my cat Dax, and new kitten. (Yeah, Bill brought home a kitten while I was away at Leadership Summit--he calls her Lena, I call her Stupid New Cat, lol).

Okay, I'm going to run to HEB for Sprite and whatever else I decide to buy...

Babysitting Letter

Dear Friends,
I am writing this to let you know that as of September 1, 2008, I will not be accepting babysitting jobs on Fridays or Saturdays.
God has really been putting it on my heart lately that I need to develop friendships outside of FOC and with people who are in my own season of life. I have been struggling and praying about this for awhile. I kept trying to convince God and myself that I don't really need to do this and that I can have friendships and continue to babysit. But, most of the time, Fridays and Saturdays are when things happen. I want to be able to say yes when I'm invited to a spur of the moment thing instead of consulting my cell phone and saying I don't have another free Friday for 7 weeks or something.
I just keep hearing God tell me that I need to do this for me. So, I told Him that I needed wisdom on making this decision and asked Him to make it clear to me what I should do while I was at the Leadership Summit this last week. The first speaker was Bill Hybels, and his speach was entitled, "The High Drama of Decision Making." (Thanks, God for making it so clear.) He said, when making a decision, you should consult the Bible, ask advisors, consider what you've learned from past decisions, and listen to promptings from the Holy Spirit.
I honestly believe that the Holy Spirit is whispering in my ear and I have full faith that God wants me to give myself a break, at least in my current season of life. At the summit, someone said, (about her own circumstance) "What if my not stepping down is stopping someone else from stepping up?" Maybe that would be exactly what I would be doing, if I decided to ignore this prompting. I am one hundred percent sure that God will provide someone to love and take care of your kids as I have.
I will still be able to babysit during the week as school and work permits. I will also do my best around Christmas party times and other squadron functions to be available.
I love each and every one of you and all of your kids. You have all been a true blessing in my life.
Love,
Amber

Baby Jackson & Leadership Summit

Please be in prayer for baby Jackson Thorne as he is going through surgery this morning. Pray that God's hands are laid on baby Jack and that He guides the doctors to do the precise thing. Pray that His loving arms are wrapped around Aaron & Kerre and that they feel His peace.

Also today, I'll be going to the Leadership Summit in San Antonio. Please pray for safe travels (I'm driving up alone so I can hang out with Amber DeLeon!) and that God will speak to me during this time in amazing ways and that I actually slow down, stop, and listend to what God has to say.

Smart Cat...

So, yesterday afternoon, I was laying on the floor in the living room watching Oprah with my mom and my cat. So, Dax kept getting in my face & was being kinda obnoxious, so I I looked at him and said, "Dax, do you want to go upstairs and take a nap?" Not joking, he ran to the foot of the stairs, looked up & started meowing. I was laughing super hard & told my mom what happened. He came over to me and started meowing and rubbing against my legs. So I jumpp up & by the time I am at the foot of the stairs, he was at the top. When I got upstairs, he was sitting by my door and crying. I opened it, and he ran inside, got in my bed, and went to sleep. So, I did too!

Rain, Rain, Go Away...

Don't come back another day.

I really really do NOT like rain.

Especially with thunderstorms. And lightening. And tornadoes.

Hurricane Dolly...hurry up & leave, please.

Vacation & such...

My Vacation was nice. It involved a lot of traveling (see previous post), which was rather annoying, but it was fun. I got to see the Wojtek's again! I didn't realize how much I missed them until I heard Jacoby's voice over the phone the night before I got there...I mean, I knew that I missed them, but it was practically painful hearing his voice & not being able to scoop him up & give him big hugs. (But, i got to give big hugs to all 3 boys the next day). We all just relaxed & hung out while I was in Ark. Went shopping one day & to story time @ the library the next. Kasey & I got to talk a lot during naps & after the boys went to bed. Zach & Kasey & I all stayed up till like midnight, i think, the first night I was there. I really love them all, they're so great.

Then I went to my cousin Missy's house & met her ADORABLE baby boy, Lleyton. He's so cute. Her older son, Landen, was a ham, as usual. When he found out Juillet & I were both staying the night, he was like "This is the best night of my life!" lol. Then Juillet, Landen & I were all sitting on the couch with our feet propped up on the coffee table, watching Shrek 3 & eating popcorn. I put my arm around him, and he said, "Aahhh. Now I feel like I'm on vacation." He cracks me up!!!

We went to Schlitterbahn the next day. I was too impatient with the lines & we ended up leaving at like 530. (We got there about 1130, so that was 6 hours...)

We hung out in San Antonio Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday night. We went to Grace Point church & heard an awesome message from Mike Sharrow. You can hear it here. (It's the one called Ready to Learn). I also got to walk through their children's area. It was pretty much the same as it was last year when I went there for Leadership Summit, but they're making lots of fun, exciting changes starting in August.

I've spent this week getting back into the swing of things. I'm pretty tired, so I shall bid you all adieu.

Kids Camp, Daisy, & Arkansas

Kids camp came and went in with a whirlwind of events. All in one weekend, I had Oso Fun (practices and the actual event), my cousin got her baby, Carter, back, i had to pack for camp, clean the house (because mom & bill were coming back from Alaska), and make sure everything was in line for Camp. whew.

In the midst of all that, my cat, Daisy, who I've had since I was four disappeared. I'm kinda still in denial that he's gone. I think. Maybe it's because I haven't seen his body that I don't really believe that he's gone. I still kinda have hope, I guess.

Well, tomorrow I'm leaving for Arkansas. I am SO SO SO excited! I miss my boys so much!

Juillet's coming with me as far as Dallas (well, technically Duncanville).
Depending what time we get to Duncanville will decide what time I'm leaving there on Monday. If I can get there & get to sleep quick, I'll leave around 630am (before all the dallas going to work traffic), which will put me in Russellville between 1230 and 1 (hopefully). If not, I'll probably leave around 9 or 930, putting me in Russellville between 3 and 4.
Then, I'll get to hang out with the Wojteks the rest of Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Then, I'll leave early Thursday morning (no later than 8...or 830...) and go back to Duncanville to pick up Juillet. I'll probably have her drive to Cedar Park (since I'll have driven for 6 hours already), where we will stay with Missy, Bryan, Landen, and Lleyton.
Friday we will head to SCHLITTERBAHN! and stay the whole day.
Friday night, my parents will hopefully meet us in San Antonio & we will hang with them Saturday and come back either Saturday or Sunday.

I am WAY WAY WAY excited...

and now i must go pack!

What an Amazing God...

When I first became Director of Children's Ministry and was scheduling volunteers by myself, I would be super nervous. On Saturdays, if I didn't have enough volunteers to serve in all the classes by noon, I would start freaking out & stressing big time. But, in the last 9 months, I have learned to just trust God, that He will always provide. Whether He provides by blessing me with more volunteers or if He is providing by having small enough classes that I can combine, I know He always will provide. I still get a little antsy, but I just keep the faith and pray & I know somehow that it will happen.

So, my point in all this is today. Today at 9am, I still needed 3 volunteers. By 945, I needed 5. I was starting to panic. I stopped & I prayed, "God, I know that You always provide, and I am asking you to please provide volunteers for the second service." So after the first service is over, I go in the sanctuary to see if there is anyone in there that I can ask to stay for the second and help. There were only two people in there, and they were doing sound & media. Everyone in the foyer was pretty much gone too. Then, I notice that two of the volunteers who had been at the first service were gone. So, now I'm thinking, I need 7 volunteers. Wow. Is it going to be possible? How many classes am I going to have to close. And then I realized that I wasn't completely 100% believing that God would provide. I said it, I prayed it, but was not sure He would. That kinda woke me up and I realized, you know, He does always provide. Every other time that I've not had enough He provided. Every time someone calls in sick, someone else will fill in. I think God was trying to tell me that He will provide when I fully believe Him. That no matter what the circumstances, He will take care of me, as long as I continue to believe. So I go back into the foyer & in walk the two volunteers who had left. So I only needed 5 more. I asked another person if she could help out somewhere, that I wasn't sure where yet, she said sure. 4 more. One of the teenagers came in and said she would help in the kinder class. 3 more. Then, I noticed a couple was just kinda standing near the bathrooms and they weren't really talking to anyone. They had served last week, so I didn't really want to ask them again, but I said to myself, "God's providing, why not." They said yes. That left one more. Then another lady came in and said that she was in the mood today to help with the babies. Then, another teenager came in and said that he would like to help in Son Harbor. So, that gave me one extra volunteer.

God is so amazing. I'm just in awe of Him right now. I can't even think of any other words right now. Amazing is the only word that can describe Him for me right now. Because He is AMAZING!!!

updates all around...

So, I haven't been to good at keeping this all updated. I've been really busy.

I'm babysitting 4 mornings a week 9am to 1 pm, every other Tuesday night, and every Friday night. PLUS other babysitting jobs. But, it seems like I'm just getting broker & broker. Maybe because I have a car payment now. Boo. (But, I do LOVE my car; it's great).

I've been swimming a lot & I am having a blast---it would be great to have a pool @ my house...

My parent's left this morning to go to Alaska for 15 days. (party @ my place--lol... j/k)

I am excited about going to Arkansas next month. I really miss Caleb, Jacoby, Easton, Kasey, and Zach.

I am also excited that Juillet will be joining me for part of the ride up there (I'll be dropping her in Dallas to visit her friend, Paula).

I am feeling very antsy lately- like something big and exciting is about to happen in my life (other than going to Arkansas) & so I've been really happy lately.

I took down the 32 (4X6) pictures hanging on my wall (of kids I babysit for), and I've started making a scrapbook. I think it'll take forever, since I'll always be adding new kiddos to the mix.

My 17 year old cousin needs your prayers--all I can say on here is that he's making some pretty stupid choices, that will probably end up killing him.

I haven't done much running since Beach to Bay (I ran this past Thursday morning, and only like 1.7 miles). But, I've been having a big time itch to run.

Jared & Heather got married last Saturday (06/07/08) & their wedding was beautiful. I pray that God gives them a wonderful marriage.

Kasey (step-sister) came to visit this last week, and we actually got along. She came with me to babysit for the Taylor's life group Sunday night, then she, mom, and I went swimming on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday (at Audie's). She helped me babysit again on Thursday night while Erin had a jewelry party. Then Friday we ran errands, went to Chuck E. Cheese's to meet some of my friends. Then we went to the base pool with Jenny McD & hung out there.

Friday night, we had Family Pictures taken by the oh so wonderful Jade (she's so awesome!).

Okay, well, I am exhausted from staying up till 1 am this morning, then getting up at 5.

Then hang with them for a few days, head back toward Round Rock on Thursday (& stay with my cousin & her new baby?). Then Friday evening, meet up with Megan, Tori, and Amanda and go tubing. Then have mom meet me in San Antonio Sunday afternoon & we can hang Sunday & Monday & get back Monday night.

Jellyfish Larva...eewwww.

I went to the beach with Jenny and the boys today. Colby & I went into the water while Jenny was putting sunscreen on & getting Jacob ready. Before they even got in the water, Colby and I were running out, covered with little Jellyfish Larva. Kendi had told me about it being out at Port a from when she took her brother in law out there, but it was crazy. I had never heard of it. AND, people were still out there swimming.

If you try to go out there, be careful!

Hooks game.

Went to the Hooks game tonight with Jared, Kevin, Jeremy, Shawna, and Julie.
It was a blast. Then Jared, Kevin, Jeremy, Shawna, her sister, and I went to Coffee Waves & had gelato. I do so love gelato. :)

Beach to Bay Pictures

Well, my team ran it in 5 hours & 12 minutes! So exciting! We are talking about possibly running in more races together throughout the next year until the next Beach to Bay & trying to beat our times!

anyway, here are some pictures:

our Oso Creek Jersey's (on the back, it said "I can do all things through Christ who strenghtens me") and our team number: 1362! (there were over 1700 teams!)
this one is of the timing chip that i had to attach to my shoe---at the finish, i ran over a sensor that marked my time. pretty cool...

this was me on the way to the race---when i realized it was actually happening.

Colleen & I after she ran her leg, but before I ran mine!
It was so much fun! Although I am VERY sore today.

Saturday, May 17, 2008

I did it!

I ran in Beach to Bay!

My team finished in 5 hours 12 minutes, and something seconds.

I did my 4.4 miles in a little over an hour. (like an hour 5, i think).

I'm exhausted.

Pictures & more to come at a later date. :)

Excited, Nervous, Scared

Not sure which I'm more of right now...

BEACH TO BAY IS TOMORROW MORNING!!!!!!!!!

I don't know what to do...i'm too excited to sleep, but I'm exhausted from a long day.

All I know is that once this is over, I'm totally going SWIMMING! Yay!

Grades & Prayers needed

So, I got all my grades today. I passed everything! YAY! Although, Western Civ was a D...my first ever (boo.)

Government 2301-B
Intro to Theatre 1310-A
Western Civilization 2311-D
Beginning Swimming 1118-B
Principles of Teaching in the Church 4380-B

So, all in all: 1 A, 3Bs, and a D...not to shabby. Not the greatest either though, unfortunately.

I'm going through some tough times right now, so if you could please pray that God would give me the wisdom to make some tough choices & that He would also provide monetarily if I make certain choices.

Summer Plans

I am really looking forward to relaxing over the next few weeks before I start babysitting all the time again. I will hopefully get the chance to go up to Austin to see my cousin Missy and her (soon to born) baby boy, Lleyton. That'll be fun!

I would really like to make it up to Arkansas again. I'm going through some major Jacoby withdrawal.

I also want to continue running. I started running again yesterday & it's been fun, but I'm in lots of pain & Beach to Bay is next stinkin' week already.

I'd also like to go to some concerts & Hooks games & whatever else.

I hope this is a super fun summer. :)

done...almost...

Well, I took 3 out of my 4 finals at DMC today. The first two (government and theatre) weren't bad at all. In fact, Government was first. We started the test at like 803 & I was done & in the Harvin center getting breakfast at 820. Then I spent 2 hours studying for theatre and western civ and talking to my friend Matt. At 1055 I started my Theatre final, at 1115, I was calling my friend Kyrie & she came and picked me up & we did lunch at a Chinese Restaurant near DMC. (Thanks for buying me lunch, Kyrie!) Then at 135ish I started my western civ test. SO HARD! There was matching and there would be like 10 questions with 25 answers to choose from or a list of dates& you had to write what was significant about that date. Then there was a list of like 6 or 8 wars and you had to write who the war was fought between. And had to know who wrote what type of literature (philosophical, religous, historical, poetry...) and I'm totally sure I failed. That one took me quite a bit longer. I think it was 215 or 220 when I finally left. Just pray for me that I'll pass the class for the semester. I did get a 92 on the map test we took in their last week (Thanks, Tori and Amanda for helping me study the maps last week before my test).

Okay, well, i'm off..to do something. Something relaxing. What? who knows?

My Fortune!

Went to eat lunch with Kyrie today at the Chinese restaurant by Del Mar. Got a fortune that says, "A friend will soon reveal an exciting secret to you!" Does anyone have anything they want to tell me? haha.

Text Message

Just got a text message from Kasey Wojtek.

It totally made my day. I love you, Kasey!

Study, Study, Study...

I totally can't wait for this semester to be over and done with! I can't believe how stinkin' fast it went by. It seems like we just started the semester.

As I'm study for my Government, Theatre, and Western Civ finals tomorrow & write my Government paper, I just pray that God gives me the clarity of mind to remember these things.

If you are reading this before Monday, May 5th, please say a prayer that I'll do well & remember everything that I need to remember. Especially in Western Civ. If I can get a B on the final, I'll probably make a C. Otherwise, it may be a D, but at this point, I'll be happy with a C. (which is really sad...in highschool, I was an all A student & I never studied.)

Must go get brownies outta the oven now. :)

All nighter...almost

So, I had to teach a Bible study tonight in my Principles of Teaching in the Church class (which went very well, and Ruthie came and watched me!!! YAY!)
So, last night, of course, I was freaking out because I didn't have it prepared. So, I went and got a huge starbuck's vanilla frappuccino from circle k & went to Megan's house. I mean, i figure if I'm going to be up all night, I might as well let her sleep and keep baby boy, right (i'm such a good cousin by the way)? So, I stayed up & studied & about 4am, I was exhausted. So, I got into bed...and what do I hear? baaaaa. maaaa... baaaaa... (also known as baby boy's goat noises). So, at 415am, I was back up. He finally went to sleep at 5am, & I was up at about 630 or 645 when I heard Aunt Maggie come in the room. So...about an hour and a half of sleep. And let me tell you, I'm functioning pretty well for me.

BUT, I'm going to bed now.

Looking forward to a fun day tomorrow:

Summer Job

So, my parents want me to get a part time summer job in order to bring in more money for a (possible) car payment, if I were to ever get a new car. Not really sure what I would do...

So, I was thinking. (Scary, right).
Say I want to make $150 a week. If I don't count weekends (so just m-f) thats $30 a day. So, if I can get 5 families to pay $30 a morning to have me come watch their kids, I could make $150 a week, or $600 a month! WOW!
So, I've already got 2 familes that have asked me to sit on a weekly basis throughout the summer. Would anyone else?

So I'm thinking 9am to 1pm. Monday-Friday. $30 a day (up to 3 kids). And if you don't have 3 kids, you can combine with someone if you don't want to pay the whole $30.
Anybody game?

Weird Guy...

So as I was driving to the bank from DMC yesterday, there was this guy in a silver truck following me, right on my bumper. I pulled into the bank & he did too. I was like whoa...so, I hurried and got inside. He was still being helped when I was done, so I took off, and went next door to Schlotzsky's to get a yummy sandwich. As I am walking in, he walks in right in front of me...weird. So today, I went to the bank again to deposit something, and he was there again. It was really strange. Then, like 4 hours later, I went to JC Penney's & as I was checking out...he walks in again. This time he's with a girl, so it wasn't as creepy...but I'm kinda worried...hmm...

Fallin' Apart

So first, I fell off the curb at church & hurt myself. Then I got sunburnt while running. Then, last Monday, while swimming in class, I pushed off the wall really hard & hurt my left lug & couldn't run. Wednesday it felt better, so I decided to give myself an extra day for my leg to completely heal, so decided to run Friday afternoon. Before I even got the chance to run, my back started hurting & still hasn't stopped. It's my lower back on the left & it's one centralized spot. It comes & goes, but when it goes, it only goes for a few minutes.

Please pray that it gets better soon. I really miss running. And Beach to Bay is 3 weeks from this saturday. AAH!

Carter

Carter is perhaps the sweetest baby...(okay, i'm sure everyone says that about their babies--of course he's not really mine). Anyway, I did a night shift with him Thursday night. He was awake the whole night...okay, not the whole night. Just 1:15 to 5:50. I was so exhausted on Friday. :) But it's worth it. He's so sweet.
He's grown out of the preemie diapers and clothes and is now into newborn clothes. He's over 7 pounds now & is 7 weeks old!

Here's a freakin' cute picture of him, taken last Tuesday.

Update...

So, it's been a few days since I've blogged.

I'm doing okay with my running. Had a FANTASTIC run on Saturday. I'm not too sure how far I went, but I know it was at least 4 miles. And, I ran in the middle of the day(ish) since I'll be running the last leg on B2B. I got sunburnt, so I didn't run on Sunday. Monday I had swimming class & I tried running afterward. My left leg hurt really bad, so I stopped after two miles. Today it didn't hurt at all, so I started to run & only ran about half a mile before I had to stop. (I continued to walk though for about half an hour...). So, I'm kinda bummed, because I was hoping to do 3.5 3 or 4 times this week, and 4 at least once.

School is going...well, it's school. I'm a little bummed there too. I went to my advisor @ SCS, and she reminded me of 37 elective hours I have to complete, which I had totally forgotten about, so I can't graduate next May. It'll be longer than that. But, I'm really pumped about next semester. Since I have to take elective classes, I'm going to take a really easy semester at Del Mar, and go a little harder at SCS. I'm taking Biblical Interpretation and a Worship class (can't remember the exact name). Bib Int should be really intense. So, at DMC, I'm going to take a Stars and Galaxies class (how cool!!!), Piano, a kinesiology (not sure what) and at least another one hour class.

Okay, well, I've got lesson plans for my teaching class that are beckoning me... :(

I'll try to blog again soon...

3.81

Went 3.81 miles today with Tanya & wasn't even tired...of course, we did walk most of it... I could've probably made it another mile or so, but when we got back to check the time, it was 7:40pm & I was babysitting for the Johnson's at 7:45pm. Oops. I got there just in time...
I think I'm going to get up really early tomorrow morning & run while it's still cool & before I babysit at 8:30am. We shall see!

Oh! And I finished my scrapbook! Yayz! It's supercute!

Thumb

So, I fell off the curb @ church yesterday (funny, I know). I don't even know what happened. One second I was walking, the next I was eating asphalt for breakfast & my hand was throbbing. I looked at my knees today for the first time & they are all bruised up. :(

My thumb is just sprained, thankfully, but it hurts. :( Now Audie can get me back for all the times I teased her about falling outta the car & breaking her elbow.

The Wonders of Scrapbooking

I started scrap booking last night. Yayz! I was very excited, but didn't realize how long it would take. :) I finished the cover and the next two pages...it's from my trip to Arkansas!!!

It's awesome! I just wish it were cheaper. haha. Pictures to come later...............

Sandi's Shower

Sandi's baby shower was a blast!
I had so much fun setting everything up & making it look so pretty & delicate:

I had such a FABULOUS time getting everything ready for our English Tea Party with Jenny, Jenny, Erin, and Erin. ;)

Here's a pic of Erin, Jenny, Sandi, me, Jenny, and Erin:

Today (and spending the night last night with Jenny & Jenny at Jenny's house) was great. Thanks ladies, for a fabulous time! :)

Sesame Street Live

I have to go see different performances for my theatre class, & my professor approved me going to see Sesame Street live. Does anyone want me to take their kids? Or is anybody already going & would allow me to tag along?
It's next week, Tuesday & Wednesday. The times I'm available to go are Tuesday 4/8 (4 pm & 730 pm) or Wednesday (4pm).

Let me know if this would work for you! :)

Financial Peace

I have been taking the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace class at church. I am super excited about saving money. I just wish it was easier. I totally miss shopping...

Beach to Bay

So I decided to run in Beach to Bay this year. I've never run in any races other than back in P.E. when I was little. I figured out it's been 10 years since I've run. I've been training about two weeks now, and I am already seeing a lot of progress. I am really excited & I'm looking forward to loosing weight too.

I am running the final leg of the race, which really excites me. It's going to be great to say "I crossed the Finish line." I can't wait!
